Neil Diamond made a rare post-retirement appearance at Fenway Park.

On 22 January 2018, he announced his retirement from concert touring due to the diagnosis. Because of it, he had to cancel the third leg of his 50th Anniversary, Australia and New Zealand, tour in March.

The illness made it difficult for Neil to travel and perform on a large-scale basis. Moreover, he paid his sincerest apologies to his fans who had purchased tickets for the shows. Despite that, he never quit writing and recording.

Two years later, on 22 March, Neil posted a video of him playing "Sweet Caroline" with modified lyrics, responding to the widespread social distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 18 June, he sang "Sweet Caroline" at the Boston Red Sox game in Fenway Park, where he had previously performed in 2010 and 2013 (days after the Boston Marathon bombings).

Neil's return to the stadium was the first since doctors diagnosed him with Parkinsons' in 2018. Although the Red Sox were down 10-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals, fans sang along with Diamond.

The 1969 single Sweet Caroline has been an eighth-inning anthem at Fenway since 1997. He shared the moments of the event on his Instagram.

Nonetheless, the 81-year-old released his album Classic Diamonds in 2021. The same year, he claimed his singing was "better than ever." 

Moreover, Neil said he was taking his medications and keeping himself fit with exercises & workouts. Nonetheless, he was in denial about the condition as he felt fine. 

He additionally stated how he was positive about the illness and getting better every day.
