Groundhog Bites Bloomberg

Ferocious animals—yet another reason to avoid Staten Island? Punxsutawney Phil, the Pennsylvania groundhog who gets his moment to shine every Feb. 2, may have seen his shadow this morning, but Staten Island’s own furry predictor of the weather woke up on the wrong side of his hibernation. Charles C. Hogg (or Chuck, as he’s known to friends) bit New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg this morning, and apparently drew blood. Bloomberg’s spokesman said, “It nicked his hand” but added that the mayor wasn’t alarmed—the critter was raised in captivity, so there is no chance of rabies.
